Keto Bone Broth

Lamb-Herb-Bone-Broth

Bone broth is one of the essential keto-friendly foods everyone should know how to make. It’s my favourite cooking ingredient that boosts any meals with flavour, healthy gelatine and minerals, and it’s also great on it’s own, especially during cold winter months. Drinking bone broth is one of the best ways to replenish electrolytes (sodium, magnesium and potassium) and eliminate the symptoms of “keto-flu”.

Here is why bone broth is good for you:

  1. rich in electrolytes (magnesium, sodium and potassium) – helps with “keto-flu”
  2. rich in other minerals (calcium, phosphorus)
  3. rich in gelatine and collagen (keeps your joints, ligaments, tendons and bones healthy and reduces joint pain, no need to buy expensive supplements for bone and joint health)
  4. helps with muscle repair (great for physically active individuals)
  5. strengthens nails and hair and makes them look gorgeous
  6. helps heal leaky gut
  7. fights infections (flu, cold)
  8. great for thyroid health and adrenal fatigue issues
  9. reduces inflammation (the main cause of heart disease)

Ingredients

  • 453g lamb bones
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil / butter
  • 1 small Onion largely diced
  • 3 medium carrots cut into chunks
  • 3 sticks celery / dhaniya roughly chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 3 sprigs Rosemary (optional)
  • 5 sprigs thyme
  • 1-3 gallons water
  • Salt optional

Instruction:

  • Preheat oven to 200C/390F.
  • Place lamb bones into a roasting pan and cook for 30-40 minutes, until well browned.
  • In a large stock pot, add the oil and place over medium heat.
  • Add the onion, carrot, celery, garlic, thyme and rosemary and saute for 5 minutes.
  • Add the lamb bones and scrape any fat or juices from the roasting pan into the pot.
  • Add 1 gallon of water and allow to come to a simmer before reducing the heat to low.
  • Simmer for 8-24 hours uncovered, adding more water when the level drops. The amount of water you need will depend on how long you wish to cook the broth for.
  • After the broth is cooked for your desired length of time, strain the broth through a fine mesh strainer.
  • Enjoy hot or chill and use as desired.
